Discovery Education has a website that offers multiple Virtual Field Trips for kids to go beyond the walls of the classroom and learn.  The website allows students to wander around different venues around the world, along with interviews and important educational information that will enhance the topic they are learning about.

I would recommend these Virtual Field Trips to any Middle School Teacher. They are very well done and grab the eyes of a middle school student. They are however geared towards the younger crowd so it may be a stretch when sharing with High School students.

This is the new look for what used to be Google Communities. You still have access to the communities, which is Google's version of Facebook or Instagram. You are able to post on a wall and see what others in your group are posting about.
I love this for class. I think it is a great supplement to what Google Classroom offers and is more relatable to kids. In the past, we have used this for discussion posts and giving students a platform to post about historical places they visited. I would recommend this for middle and high school teachers.

https://www.loom.com/my-videos

Loom is a tool similar to Screencastify, that allows you to record yourself, your screen, or both. Loom then takes the recording and allows you to organize them into folders and categories on your dashboard that has been created on their website. With options to easily share out to multiple platforms, it is more user friendly than other sites.

I am a big fan of Loom because of how user friendly it is and how it helps organize your videos, rather than only letting you download them. This was huge when doing lessons during our virtual learning environment in the spring. If we have to work remotely again in the fall, this is the site I will use to create videos.

Flipgrid.com

One website that I have not hit on yet, that we use weekly in my classroom is FlipGrid. FlipGrid allows students to share short videos made on right on the site. They can add stickers and backgrounds to spice up and have fun with their videos. The newest feature is the QR code AR videos. This allows the video to essentially come off of your phone or tablet and talk to you. We were working on these prior to Spring Break. I will be eager to try that when we have students again.

I am a huge fan of FlipGrid. We use it for weekly Exit Tickets or an overview of what the students learned for the week. We use it when acting out a character in History or when teaching the class. The Topic Boards allow you to organize and control what and when things are placed in your class. This is a must in every classroom.

Soundtrap.com

Soundtrap is a great resource when creating music or voice recordings. It allows you to use instruments or imported music along with your voice to create multiple projects in any subject area.

We have used Soundtrap a lot in my class. From podcasts, voice-overs, and special effects, to book reports, raps, and PSAś. Soundtrap has been a great tool and allows you to use the vast majority of the site for free!

My Experience with Technology

Read Now

It started.....

with a love for technology outside of the classroom. While attending Newman I was lucky to have Max Frazier as my advisor and teacher. Dr. Frazier actually wrote a book about using technology in a classroom. He showed us the importance of bringing it into the classroom.

My first year at the Middle School, while teaching Math we implemented a lot of technology. I used a Microsoft Surface Pro that was bluetoothed to the projector so that I would not be stuck to the board. It gave me the ability to move around the room, work the math problem on the board, and show any additional resources all from the palm of my hand. When I made the transition to World History in year three, I was extremely excited simply because I knew the projects and technology would grow. We through out the idea of taking a test and have moved to a project where students can show what they know, rather than what the simply remember in the moment. Projects mean more technology!

If I had to mention a strength it would be finding new things to use in the classroom to keep kids engaged. We constantly try and use the new thing. At the same time that is in a way a weakness. Every new thing we try takes a little extra time to implement and understand. We cover less content than we probably should, but the technology is always evolving in our classroom.

https://www.wevideo.com/

We use WeVideo in order for students to create their own videos to share with the class. WeVideo gives them a more simplified format that Adobe Premiere, yet has more features than a normal iMovie or similar product. The websiteś purpose is simply to combine video, pictures, music, and text to create videos.

We have created commercials, news reports, PSAś, short movies, along with other projects all while using WeVideo.  This is a great website with endless possibilities for students in all subject areas!
